Another prominent Nigerian Shaka Momoh dies of COVID-19, social media mourns

- Nigeria has lost another prominent citizen to the deadly coronavirus as the world battles the second wave of the disease

Shaka Momoh, the owner of Planet One, a hotel and event centre in Maryland, Lagos, has died of the deadly coronavirus.

News of his demise came to public knowledge after Nigerians took to Twitter to pay tributes to the deceased.

He was said to have died at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) on Thursday, January 14, The Cable reports.

Gboyega Akosile, the chief press secretary to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu also confirmed the development on Twitter.

He tweeted:

"Flash: Shaka Momoh, renowned businessman and owner of Planet 1 events and hotels located in Maryland, Lagos is dead. Report says he died this morning from #COVID19 related complications.

A human rights activist, Segun Awosanya, also confirmed Shaka's death on his Twitter page.

He wrote:

"Lost another gem to #Covid19. The last time we spoke it was about our intervention on his case with a financial institution. Now he is no more. Rest In Peace Distinguished Shaka Momoh (Planet One). #CovidIsReal."

Nigerians flooded the comment section of Awosanya's post to condole with him and other loved ones.

Tweep with the handle @UniqChildofGod wrote:

"This is sad. May God console you and his family. May his soul rest in peace. Covid19 is real. Let's stay safe, please."

@setfromabove commented:

"May his soul find eternal peace and rest, may the good God console his family and friends, sorry for your loss sir."

In similar news, the Lagos State University College of Medicine has shut down its campus in Ikeja after some students and officials contracted the deadly coronavirus.

The students and officials of the college confirmed the development, saying three of the students tested positive for the disease.

Also confirming the development, head, Centre for Information, Press and Public relations of the Lagos State University, Ademola Adekoya, said the affected students are in isolation.
