MUnited leapfrogged Liverpool to move to the summit of the league charts following their 1-0 hard-fought win at Burnley on Tuesday night, January 12.

Paul Pogba's sublime finish in the second half of the tie proved to be decisive as the Red Devils went top with 36 points.

However, despite the Old Trafford dwellers' arguably promising campaign, Cole believes Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men will find it difficult to challenge Liverpool and rivals Man City for the title.

Whereas the Englishman admitted it was a fantastic achievement for his former side to move ahead of Liverpool, he insisted he cannot see them carting home the prestigious title at the end of the campaign.

He noted that would be a long stretch for United right now, arguing they cannot match the quality of Jürgen Klopp's side and City.

“And to close the gap in one season, that’s no mean feat, that’s going to take some consistency and those sides are yet to play very well," he told talkSPORT.
“But to win it this season is going to take some doing," he added.

He, however, predicted United have a realistic chance of challenging for the domestic crown from next season.

“I don’t think we’ve got enough to go ahead and win it this season, but I feel we can look towards next season when I think it could be a lot better," he noted.

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Man United legend Gary Neville has admitted the club stand a chance to gun for the title after earning a crucial win at Burnley on Tuesday night, January 12.

Man United edged the Turf Moor-based side 1-0 to cart home all the three points, with Paul Pogba scoring the vital goal that separated the two teams.

The win was enough to send the Red Devils three points clear on top of the standings as Liverpool dropped to second with 33 points.

This is the first time the Old Trafford dwellers are sitting on the summit of the Premier League table in January since Sir Alex Ferguson left the club in 2013.

Man United will be keen to consolidate their place at the top when they take on Liverpool in their next league match set for Sunday, January 17, at Anfield.
