Ex-refugee born during civil war becomes 1st graduate in her family

Most scholars who graduate with their first degree often view their achievement as just a step in the right direction.
But model and activist Hamdia Ahmed views her graduation as a win for her mum, dad, siblings and herself.
Why? Because she is the first person in her family to complete school and get a degree. Amazing!
The 21-year-old lady shared her story on Twitter and explained just why she will never forget the look on her mother’s face when she donned her gown and clutched onto her certificate.
Hamdia was born amidst a civil war.
Her mum who was pregnant at the time, delivered the beauty as she tried to escape unrest in their motherland.
After that, Hamdia and her family spent seven years in a refugee camp.
They then travelled to the US with nothing to their name but hearts full of hope and love. She wrote:
“Twenty-one years ago my mother gave birth to me while she was escaping from a civil war. I spent the first seven years of my life in a refugee camp. My parents sacrificed so much for their kids. Today, I became the first person to graduate from college in my family."

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported how a 21-year-old lady thanked her mum for escaping war so she could have an education.
The lady, Ramla Tyrow shared the emotional message on her Twitter wall @Ramla_Ty.
Ramla captioned it:
"Mama you ran from a civil war so I could be safe and get the education you didn't. Today you cried when you saw me in my robe. Did it for you."
