Newly appointed Paris Saint-Germain manager Mauricio Pochettino has won his first-ever trophy after guiding the Parisians to the French Super Cup title.

The 48-year-old who lost the Champions League final as well as the League Cup has started-off on a sensational note at his new club.

PSG defeated fiercest rivals Marseille to emerge champions of this season’s French Super Cup at the Stade Bollaert-Delelis.

Goals by Mauro Icardi and Neymar were enough as late Dimitri Payet’s strike was not enough for the opponents as it ended 2-1.

It means Pochettino has now won the first-ever silverware of his career which comes just 12 days after he was appointed as PSG boss.

He began his managerial career with Spanish outfit Espanyol in 2009 and he has failed to win anything everywhere he went including Southampton and Tottenham.

He suffered heartbreak in the League Cup final in 2015 when Chelsea beat the North Londoners 2-0 at Wembley.

And Pochettino was then reduced to tears in 2019 when Liverpool emerged victorious in the Champions League final after winning 2-0.

Spurs also narrowly missed out on the Premier League crown to the Blues in 2017 when they finished in second spot.

Pochettino has however made want-away Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba his prime transfer target.

The 27-year-old's current deal with the Red Devils expires in the summer of 2022 but he cannot wait to leave the Old Trafford outfit.

Both Juventus and Real Madrid have been on his case for some time now but Los Blancos showed more seriousness after submitting several bids but the offers were rejected.

In spite of his back and forth with United, the 2018 World Cup winner remains one of the best midfielders in the world at the moment.

The Argentine is convinced he can launch a successful swoop for the unsettled United playmaker and beat Real Madrid and Juventus to his signature.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone has emerged No.1 in the top 20 greatest managers of the last decade according to the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS).

The Argentine tactician edged Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp as well as Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola to the prestigious award.

This ranking by the IFFHS was done while considering the annual votes for the 20 tacticians in the last ten years.
