Presidency reveals why Buhari has not solved security problems

The presidency has disclosed why the Buhari administration is finding it challenging to solve the country’s security problems.

Garba Shehu, a presidential spokesperson, said the problems of security in the country are mutating, therefore making them challenging.

The Cable reported that Shehu made the disclosure when he featured on a Television Continental (TVC) programme on Sunday, January 10.

He however assured Nigerians that the president was working hard to secure the country.

He said:

“This country has always been challenged by issues of insecurity. No country is crime-free. The challenges are mutating … but all hands are now on deck."

Shehu said Buhari is determined to decisively deal with Boko Haram, banditry, and kidnapping in 2021.

The presidential aide also stated that it is entirely up to President Muhammadu Buhari to decide when to make changes in the appointment of service chiefs.

He pointed out that Buhari has kept the current security chiefs in office because he sees what Nigerians do not see.

Garba Shehu explained that the military commanders serve at the pleasure of the president, noting that there is no part of the law stipulating their tenure of service.

In another report, the Department of State Security Services (DSS), has raised an alarm over suspected plans by some elements working with external forces to incite religious violence across the country.

The Punch reported that the secret service alleged that the plot is to incite religious violence in Sokoto, Kano, Kaduna, Plateau, Rivers, Oyo, Lagos, and some states in the southeast.
