Manchester United are through to the fourth round of this season's FA Cup following with 1-0 win over Watford at the Old Trafford on Saturday night, January 9.

The Red Devils took the lead as early as the 5th minute through captain of the night Scott McTominay as he glanced a header in, off the back-post from a corner to make it 1-0.

It was a bright start for the lad yet again after he set the tone for a thumping against Leeds last month.

It should have been two-nil in the 20th minute following another excellent corner from Telles, but this time Bailly headed wide in what could be described as an awful defending by the visitors.

Watford began to settle in the game midway into the first half and following a decent bit of play, they switched flanks in the final third, but Gray couldn't connect with a cross.

In the 32nd minute, Watford were unfortunate not to have been awarded a penalty after the ball hit Eric Bailly’s arm in the box. However, the VAR check determined it accidental, which was fair.

United had another decent chance early in the second half after some more good play from James on the left as cut in on his right. However, he unleashed another tame shot which was saved with ease.

In the 55th minute, it was another threat from Watford as Pedro headed over from a free-kick as United look vulnerable to the set-pieces.

United dominated the possession with a whopping 70 per cent with the Red Devils having 15 shots to show for that domination, but Watford themselves had 14.

Somehow the early goal by Scott McTominay seemed to be enough as United won the tie 1-0.

Odion Ighalo was not fielded for a chance to play against his former side.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that Arsenal overcame stubborn Newcastle United with two late goals to book their place in the FA Cup fourth-round stage.

A goal each from Emile Smith Rowe and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the 109th and 117th minute of their meeting handed the Gunners the victory.

The game was already looking like it would be decided with penalties but the North Londoners stepped up their game towards the end of the match.
