Tambari Yabo, former Assistant Inspector-General of Police dies

Muhammad Tambari Yabo, a retired Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG), is dead.

Daily Trust reports that he died at the Usman Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital, Sokoto state, on Saturday, January 9, after a brief illness.

Though details of his illness were not made public yet, Legit.ng notes that the retired senior police officer died at a time more deaths are being recorded from the coronavirus pandemic.

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) announced that 12 people died on Friday, January 8 from COVID-19.

The NCDC made this confirmation around midnight on Friday in a tweet on its official Twitter handle.

In the tweet, NCDC's stats showed that Nigeria's COVID-19 death toll rose from 1,330 on Thursday, January 7 to 1, 342 on Friday.

In a related report, Professor Durojaiye Ajeyalemi, a former dean of Students’ Affairs, University of Lagos (UNILAG), has died of COVID-19.

Ajeyalemi, until his demise on Wednesday, January 6, was a professor of Curriculum Studies.

UNILAG's deputy VC (academic and research) Oluwole Familoni, confirmed the professor's death which was reportedly caused by COVID-19 complications.

Meanwhile, former vice-chancellor of the University of Lagos, Professor Oye Ibidapo-Obe, had been declared dead.

Professor Ibidapo-Obe was, until his death, the pro-chancellor and chairman of the Council of First Technical University, Ibadan.

His death was confirmed in a statement on Sunday, January 3, by the registrar and secretary to the council of the university, Olayinka Balogun.
