Group frowns at siege on US Congress, urges Trump to apologise
- President Donald Trump of the United States of America has been urged to apologise over the invasion of the Capitol by his supporters
- The call was made by the Global Amnesty Watch on Friday, January 8
- According to the group, the actions of the US president has raised questions on the model of democracy practised in the US currently

The Global Amnesty Watch (GAW) on Friday, January 8, condemned the violent protest which took place at the United States of America's Capitol Hill by some supporters of President Donald Trump.
The group said the siege on the US congress is despicable and an assault on democracy which the country and her past leaders have abided by.
In a statement signed by GAW's director, John Lever, and seen by Legit.ng, the group said President Trump and his supporters showed a lack of respect for the tenants of democracy.
He also said that it is time for a review of the US Democratic values by the incoming administration led by the president-elect, Joe Biden, and his vice, Kamala Harris.

Lever said that the incoming administration must improve on the country's internal mechanism to guard against a repeat of the assault on its democracy as witnessed on Wednesday, January 6.
The group also advised the incumbent to seek forgiveness from the American people for bringing democracy in the nation to disrepute.

Pelosi while speaking on Thursday, January 7, said it the 25th amendment is not invoked she would take steps in the House to initiate the impeachment of the president.

In other news, the president of Zimbabwe, Emmerson Mnangagwa, has condemned in strong terms the actions by some supporters of President Trump at the US Capitol Hill.
Mnangagwa said it is unfortunate that the US has no moral obligations to sanction other nations in the name of promoting democracy after the incident at the congress building.
