Armed bandits kill four villagers in Kaduna community

Armed bandits have again, killed four people in Katarma village, Chikun local government area of Kaduna, as the northwest state comes under intense siege from the criminal gangs.

The incident was disclosed in a statement seen by Legit.ng on Thursday, January 7 issued by Samuel Aruwan, the Kaduna state commissioner for internal security and home affairs.

Aruwan said the bandits were initially engaged by local vigilantes who defended the village before troops were mobilised to the location.

He further said the state government was informed of the incident by security agencies, adding that the four persons killed in the attack are: Bulus Barde, Hassan Zarmai, Lawal Pada, and Kefas Auta.

He added that three others: Amos Doma, Zamba Ali, and Bomboi Busa sustained injuries from gunshots during the incident.

Recall that no fewer than 19 people were killed in a two-day attack by bandits in the state recently.

Also, two married women were among an unspecified number of the villagers said to have been kidnapped by the bandits during the coordinated attacks, while nine persons sustained bullet injuries.

Meanwhile, the national chairman of the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), Audu Ogbeh, has revealed what happens after captives are rescued from the clutch of terrorists and bandits following payment of ransoms.

Ogbeh, a former minister of agriculture, said that with information available to the ACF, the criminals divert the ransom money into the purchase of arms.

On his part, Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi state has accused desperate politicians of aligning with bandits to destabilise Nigeria.

Umahi made the comment on Tuesday, January 5 after a virtual meeting with his colleagues in the southeast region of the country.

The Ebonyi governor, however, failed to provide any proof or named any politician he knows involved in banditry.
