Shuaib went on to note that key government officials like the president, VP and the SGF will be taking the vaccine in the full glare of the public to demonstrate that the vaccine is safe.

While urging Nigerians not to be hesitant on the vaccines, the NPHCDA executive director emphasised that health workers will be given priority when Nigeria receives the vaccine.

He explained that this is because they are in direct contact with coronavirus cases in isolation centres.

This development is coming almost a month after the federal government put in place machinery for receiving 20 million doses of the newly approved COVID-19 vaccine.

The executive secretary of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), Faisal Shuaib, broke the news at the presidential task force on COVID-19 media briefing in Abuja on Thursday, December 10, 2020.

He emphasised that 92 countries came together to ensure access and safety of vaccines, adding that the expected 20 million doses would first be given to workers in the health sector and vulnerable citizens.
