Manchester City defeated neighbours and fierce rivals Manchester United 2-0 to reach the final of this season’s Carabao Cup courtesy goals from John Stones and Fernandinho.

It was Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's second straight Cup defeat to Pep Guardiola side as the Citizens edged their rivals at the Theatre of Dreams.

City eventually unlocked the Red Devils’ defence in the 50th minute after John Stones tucked home the opening goal of the encounter.

With United pressing and desperate for an equaliser, Fernandinho struck seven minutes from time to bury the game as it ended 2-0.

And as the Brazilian returned home, his son Davi Rosa gave him a heroic embrace to applaud the father’s performance.

Manchester City will now go head-to-head with Tottehan in a final which will see eternal rival managers Pep Guardiola and Jose Mourinho face-off yet again.

Guardiola side have won the last three editions of the competition, but Mourinho will be looking to helping Spurs to a major title after 12 years.

Although 2018 World Cup winner Paul Pogba felt disappointed with their exit at the semifinal stage of the competition, he insisted that the disappointment will help them focus on bigger titles. He said:

“There is no time to be disappointed for a week because we know where we are. We are in a good position now. We don’t have time to be disappointed.

“We don’t have the time. We will get through this and we will go again. It is difficult and it is going to be difficult, and you learn from these games. It is going to hopefully help us to get through, to get better and to have a positive result in the next games.”

Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that former Manchester United manager, Alex Ferguson has refused to be carried away about the Red Devils’ form in the Premier League so far this campaign as they are joint top on the standings.

Pressure continues to mount on current manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as United are looking like they will challenge for the title this season.

Ferguson who retired in 2013 after winning 38 major titles during his time as United manager is still regarded as arguably the greatest manager of all-time.
