Sultan of Sokoto-led JNI tackles Bishop Kukah, says Christmas sermon targets Islam

Three weeks after the message of Bishop Matthew Kukah, which generated massive reactions across the country, the Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI) has berated the Catholic priest.

The group led by the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar on Wednesday, January 6, described Kukah’s Christmas message as a poisoned arrow targeted at Islam and Muslims across Nigeria, The Punch reports.

The organisation, in a statement by Dr. Khalid Abubakar Aliyu, JNI’s secretary-general in Kaduna, stated that Kukah’s message was irresponsible and seditious.

Aliyu went on to note that though the sermon was disguised as political hogwash to deceive the innocent, there is no doubt that it was a poisoned arrow.

He also added that it was a calculated attempt on Kukah's part to insult Islam which is typical of him.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that Professor Ishaq Akintola criticised Bishop Kukah. The founder, Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), accused the Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese of disrespecting Islam.

Specifically, he said Kukah described Islam as a violent religion. He said this in reaction to Kukah's statement on December 25, 2020, about the state of the nation.

Akintola who described the bishop as a first-class blackmailer also blamed him for tackling Buhari.
