Premier League defending champions Liverpool have reportedly offered Bayern Munich veteran David Alaba a staggering £9m-a-year contract.

The Reds are planning to beat top Spanish League giants to the signing of the Austrian whose deal with the German League outfit expires this summer.

Although the Bavarians haven't given up hopes of persuading the 28-year-old defender to extend his reign at the club with about six months to the expiration of his current deal with them.

According to Daily Express, the Austrian has reiterated his interest in remaining in Munich, however, he is facing distractions from interested clubs across Europe.

And the German giants withdrew their offer of a new five-year contract back in November, opening the door to a move away from Bayern.

Both Los Blancos and the Reds have shown serious interest in the 28-year-old who is free to speak with prospective new clubs from this month.

But the Merseyside outfit has now taken a step further in securing the player's signature earlier than their rivals.

Italian journalist Romero Agresti claims Liverpool have offered Alaba a contract worth £9 million-a-year for him to join as a free agent in the summer and that will make one of the best-paid players at Anfield with £175,000-a-week wage.

Only Mohamed Salah, Thiago Alcantara, Roberto Firmino and Virgil van Dijk reportedly earn more, according to Spotrac.

Bayern look set to cash in on the player in a bid to avoid losing him for free when his deal expires in the summer.

However, they are also planning to keep him in order to improve their chances of retaining their European title this campaign.

Legit.ng earlier reported that Real Madrid might be forced to abandon their interest in Bayern Munich veteran defender, David Alaba, over wage demands.

The 28-year-old will be out of contract with his German League champions when the current season wraps up later this year.

However, less than six months to the expiration of his deal with the Bavarians, he is already attracting attention from other top clubs including Chelsea and Barcelona.
