Manchester City qualified for the Carabao Cup final for the fourth time in a row as they beat Man United 2-0 at Old Trafford.

It was Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's second straight Cup defeat to Pep Guardiola side as the Citizens edged their rivals at the Theatre of Dreams.

John Stones and Fernandinho scored two second half goals to confirm City's place in the final of the EFL Cup.

Two goals were scored in the opening five minutes which did not count as the assistant referees spotted two offside calls from Rashford and Ilkay Gundogan.

Fernandes' first time shot forced an acrobatic save from City goalkeeper Zack Steffen in the ninth minute.

In the 13th, Kevin de Bruyne rattled United's goal-post from his effort outside of the 18-yard box leaving Dean Henderson no chance.

The offside flag was correctly raised again in the 21st minute as Phil Foden broke loose from a through ball from down the left, as he slid the ball between the legs of Henderson.

Ruben Dias made a world-class clearance after Rashford rounded Oleksandr Zinchenko and had the goal to aim at but the Spanish defender was there to make the block.

The second

Five minutes into the second half City got their noses in front as a Foden's free-kick was met at the near post by Stones to make it 1-0.

It should have been 2-0 but Riyad Mahrez produced a fine save from United's goalie Henderson who pammed the ball over the bar.

Fernandinho made it 2-0 seven minutes from time as he unleashed a shot from outside of the 18-yard box which proved to be the match-winner.

And that was how it ended as City set up a Carabao Cup final clash with Tottenham who edged Brentford in the other fixture.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that Kevin de Bruyne has rejected a new five-year contract at Man City that will see him earn lower than what he presently makes at the Etihad, as reported by Sport Bible.

And it is understood that the Citizens are looking at the possibility of signing Lionel Messi in the summer and would want to have enough resources to fund the deal.

Reports claim De Bruyne is frustrated with City's first contract offer but Pep Guardiola has played down the rumours that he is unhappy at the club.
