Though he lost to Biden, President Trump has consistently insisted, without any evidence, that the election was marred by irregularities.

He subsequently asked his deputy, Vice President Mike Pence not to certify the votes but to send them back to their respective states.

The embattled US president claimed that many states want to decertify the votes just as he said the vice president has the power to send the votes back to the states instead of certifying them.

However, Vice President Pence has reportedly told him that the plan will not be possible, saying he has no authority to block the certification.

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that at least six people were arrested in Washington D.C. on Tuesday, January 5 as thousands of American citizens geared up for larger protests in support of President Trump.

Videos on social media also showed some clashes between protesters and police.

In another related report, President Trump had also pressured Georgia’s Republican secretary of state, Brad Raffensperger, to “find” enough votes to overturn Biden’s win in the state’s presidential election.

Trump repeatedly cited disproven claims of fraud and raising the prospect of “criminal offence” if officials did not change the vote count during a phone call recorded and its details later released.

Critics say the phone call was the latest step in an unprecedented effort by Trump to pressure a state official to reverse the outcome of the election he lost.
