Super Eagles defender Kevin Akpoguma has been ruled out of action for an unspecified period of time after sustaining a muscle injury in Hoffenheim's 3-1 home defeat to Freiburg.

The 25-year-old lasted just 17 minutes in the encounter after colliding with Christian Gunter and was replaced by Robert Skov for the remainder of the meeting.

However, the club confirmed the latest development in a statement on their official website but refused to give a possible return date for the player.

His chances of adding to the tally have now been cut short with the injury set back as he will likely miss a number of games before getting back to the pitch. The statement as reported by Complete Sports reads:

“Likewise for Kevin Akpoguma, who sustained a muscle and tendon injury on the back of his left thigh in the sprint duel with the fast Günter and had to be replaced after a good quarter of an hour. He, too, is likely to be absent for weeks.

The former Germany youth international broke into the Super Eagles team in 2020 and has been a key part of Gernot Rohr's squad since then.

Legit.ng earlier reported that Nigerian winger Victor Osimhen will be punished for breaking the deadly coronavirus guidelines while on holidays in his home country.

Napoli boss Gennaro Gattuso made the comments after a video clip of Africa's most expensive star spraying musician money surfaced on the internet.

The 22-year-old has been out of action since early November after picking up a shoulder injury while on international duty for the Super Eagles.
