Nigerian police arrest Omoyele Sowore over crossover protest in Abuja

A journalist, Omoyele Sowore, has again been arrested by the Nigerian police in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
Sowore was reportedly arrested along with other activists for leading a procession tagged crossover protest in the early hours of Friday, January 1, 2021, in Abuja.

According to Premium Times, the journalist was taken away in one of the seven vans of the police mobilised to the protest ground at Gudu junction.
A source reportedly told The Cable that Sowore and other activists were taken to Abattoir police station in Abuja, where they are being detained.
A source reportedly said:
“Sowore was particularly singled out for torture by the security operatives, who gave him a bloodied nose before whisking him away.”
Meanwhile, a former Nigerian president, Goodluck Jonathan, has urged his fellow citizens to learn from the challenges, gains as well as losses that occurred in the year 2020.
Jonathan made the statement on Friday, January 1, in his New Year message to Nigerians via Twitter.
The ex-president said 2020 was a challenging year for many homes and families due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Meanwhile, apparently dissatisfied with the non-implementation of the new minimum wage, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has threatened to embark on industrial action in the defaulting states and those owing workers' salaries.
PM News reported that this was contained in its New Year message signed by its president, Ayuba Wabba.
Legit.ng gathered that Wabba noted that up till date, some states have refused to pay the new national minimum wage.
To other news, President Muhammadu Buhari has promised to reorganise Nigeria's security architecture in 2021.
The president made the promise in his 2021 new year message to Nigerians on Friday, January 1.
The president, however, noted that his government needs to be more proactive and preemptive in ensuring that such incidents do not become a norm.
