The electoral umpire, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), is right to deregister the Alliance for United Nigeria (AUN) as a political party, the Federal High Court in Abuja has ruled.

This was the judgment made by Justice Ahmed Mohammed, ThisDay reports.

According to Mohammed, INEC’s decision is in line with the provision of section 225(a) of the Nigerian Constitution.

Going further, he ruled that AUN failed to meet the statutory threshold of the registration requirement for political parties.

He added that the party failed to win any seat in either federal, state, or local government levels so with that, INEC was right to deregister the party.

APC finally addresses rumoured defection of PDP governor to ruling party

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that the All Progressives Congress (APC) broke its silence on the alleged attempts to lure Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia state to join the party, with the ruling side describing the speculations as mere "rumours."

Making this disclosure, the Abia state chairman of the party, Donatus Nwankpa, said the issue of the governor "defecting or not joining APC is immaterial" to it.

Legit.ng recalls that Governor Ikpeazu earlier described the reports that he was contemplating defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as untrue.

In another development, Theodore Orji, a senator representing Abia Central in the Senate, has condemned defectors from the PDP.

Speaking on Monday, December 21, the former governor of Abia state dubbed those jumping fences from PDP to other parties including the APC as blacklegs.

Senator Orji, who spoke while inspecting some his constituency projects in some local government areas of Abia state, said defectors must be ready to face the consequences of their action.
