The All Progressives Congress (APC) has broken silence on the alleged attempts to lure Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia state to join the party, with the ruling side describing the speculations as mere "rumours."

Making this disclosure is the Abia state chairman of the party, Donatus Nwankpa, who said the issue of the governor "defecting or not joining APC is immaterial" to it.

Legit.ng recalls that Governor Ikpeazu earlier described the reports that he was contemplating defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as untrue.

The governor on Friday, December 25, reaffirmed his loyalty to the PDP during a radio show he was a guest.

He said he has no reason to leave his party, further arguing that the PDP is the best for the people of Abia state in what ended the speculation surrounding his alleged defection plans.

While reacting, Nwankpa said there were no moves for Ikpeazu to dump his party for the ruling train, maintaining that he is not ready "to join issues with the governor."

“I have not made any move to have Ikpeazu in the party as well. Every politics starts from the ward. Every politics is local.
"The ward, local government and zonal chairmen from where the governor comes from, nor myself (Nwankpa) made any move or advance to have the governor in our party.
"People should not build on rumour;none of us has made any move for the governor to join our party.”
