Despite the coronavirus pandemic, President Donald Trump of the United States is hosting a party on New Year’s Eve at his Florida golf resort, Mar-a-Lago.

According to The Independent, guests who wish to attend the party must be members of Mar-a-Lago, a resort and national historic landmark in Palm Beach, Florida, and will pay $1,000 (N379,000) each for entry tickets.

The news media notes that though the Palm Beach County, where the party will take place, has a mask mandate in place, other events recently held at Mar-a-Lago, have been attended by guests who refused to wear masks.

This raises a suspicion that President Trump's party too may not witness strict enforcement of the use of masks.

Legit.ng gathers that Trump has a tradition of throwing New Year’s Eve parties before becoming the US president.

However, this year's party comes at a time the US is struggling to contain the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.

According to the data from the Johns Hopkins University, 19,744,737 people have contracted COVID-19 in the US while 342,395 people have died of complications from the virus.

The US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention has advised Americans to celebrate the holidays in their homes to avoid mass gatherings and to prevent further spread of the virus.

However, The Independent cited CNN as confirming that about 500 people have already reserved tickets for the president's party.
