- Yinka Odumakin has reacted to the alleged presidential ambition of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu
- The national spokesman of Afenifere said the group will endorse anybody that will allow restructuring of Nigeria
- Odumakin also noted that the likes of Pastor Tunde Bakare and Governor Fayemi were interested in running for the presidency in 2023
The national publicity secretary of Afenifere, Yinka Odumakin, has declared that the national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, is not the leader of the Yoruba race.
Speaking on the Punch online interview programme tagged, The Roundtable, on Wednesday, December 30, Odumakin said the Afenifere has not endorsed Tinubu, the Ekiti state governor, Kayode Fayemi, or any non-Yoruba aspirant for the 2023 presidency.
Legit.ng gathered that Odumakin also alleged that the serving overseer of the Citadel Global Community Church in Lagos, Pastor Tunde Bakare is eyeing the presidency in 2023.
He, however, said the group has not given support to Bakare or to anybody who intends to run for the most exalted seat in the country.
Reacting to Bakare's comments on Tinubu, Odumakin said those who have the cathedral right to express views on the pulpit should be careful of what they say.
“No, there is no doubt that Asiwaju is a leader in Yorubaland but he is not the leader of the Yoruba people. To say Asiwaju has done more for the Yoruba people is debatable."
“You will not earn our support because you are a Yoruba man but we will examine what you stand for. We have not given support to anyone at the moment. We are watching those who are interested in the 2023 presidency including Fayemi, Tinubu, and even Bakare himself and other non-Yoruba people.
“Where each candidate stands on the issue of restructuring and federalism will determine who gets our support. Afenifere is not afraid to state our support for any candidate and any party.”
Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that Pastor Bakare lambasted Odumakin and the former aviation minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, over comments on his statement on the national leader of the APC, Tinubu.
