Argentine football legend Lionel Messi on Tuesday night, December 29, watched from the stands as his club Barcelona were held to a disappointing draw by visiting Eibar in La Liga match.
Lionel Messi missed that Spanish La Liga encounter due to the fact that he just came back from Argentina where he took his family for Christmas celebration.
Barcelona started the match impressively with the determination of winning the encounter as Martin Braithwaite missed a great penalty which would have given the hosts the lead in the 8th minute.
Martin Braithwaite also had his goal ruled as an offside in the 24th minute and was disappointed with the decision of the match officials.
The hosts failed to find the back of the net in the first 45 minutes as Eibar defenders were so superb against Barcelona forwards.
Eibar even took the lead in the 57th minute through Kike who connected well from the pass by Sergio Alvarez to give the visitors the goal.
Barcelona, however, fought well and got their equaliser in the 67th minute through Ousmane Dembele who benefited from a pass by Junior Firpo.
Koeman and his wards failed to get the winning goal against Eibar in which Lionel Messi was disappointed, shaking his heads according to UK Sun.
Barcelona are occupying sixth position on the Spanish La Liga table with 25 points after 15 games and the Catalans will be facing Huesca in their next tie.
Earlier, Legit.ng had reported how Barcelona's presidential candidate Joan Laporta stated emphatically that Lionel Messi can still be convinced to continue his career at the Nou Camp from next summer.
Currently, Lionel Messi's future at Barcelona is not certain as the Argentine is playing the last year of his contract at the Spanish La Liga side.
Before the start of the ongoing League season in Spain, Lionel Messi wanted to leave Nou Camp with Manchester City said to be interested in signing him.
However, the six-time Ballon d'Or winner later decided to stay at the Nou Camp after his father Jorge had a discussion with Barcelona chiefs.
