Put more emphasis on your BOQ, Gov Okowa urges NDDC

Delta state governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa has urged the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) to put more emphasis on its Bill of Quantitatities( BOQ), to enable its road projects to stand the test of time.

A statement from the Delta state government seen by Legit.ng noted that Okowa gave the advice on Monday, December 28 at a grand reception in honour of Justice Samuel Chukwudumebi Oseji on his elevation as Justice of the Supreme Court.

The governor was reacting to a passionate appeal by the community to prevail on NDDC to complete the Onicha-Uku/Idumuje-Unor road awarded in 2012 said there was the need for a review of the contract because the value of the naira had weakened over the years.

He stated that most roads constructed by the NDDC don't last because of an inappropriate bill of quantities.

He added that:

“Because of COVID-19, the finances of governments have been largely affected especially in Nigeria and it is our prayer that we have a better year in 2021.”

Meanwhile, the South-South Emerging Leaders Forum (SELF) has declared that the appointment of Effiong Akwa as the sole administrator of the NDDC was done in line with the act setting up the commission.

In a statement seen by Legit.ng on Monday, December 28 by its national coordinator Barrister Preye Johnson, the group also stated that the minister of Niger Delta affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio, should not be crucified for the decision.

Recall that the Niger Delta Change Ambassadors recently commended President Buhari for appointing Akwa as the interim administrator of the NDDC.

In an open letter sent to the president dated Sunday, December 13, and seen by Legit.ng, the group noted that the appointment of Akwa will reunite all stakeholders in the Niger Delta region.

The group also praised Akpabio for providing effective and unbiased leadership at a time the former leader of the interim management committee of the NDDC was been accused of fraud.
