Winners’ Chapel’s crossover night service holds yearly on December 31 to January 1, within the hours of 10 pm - 4am.

But this year’s event has reportedly been cancelled by the church, likely due to the COVID-19 pandemic, PM News reported.

The church reportedly made the announcement to various congregations on Sunday, December 27.

Members of the congregation were reportedly told that instead of the crossover night service, there will be an early evening service that will begin around 5pm or 6 pm on December 31

The announcement stated that the alternative service will last between two and three hours.

Meanwhile, the Rivers state government has threatened to impose another lockdown following the unruly behaviours of some persons who believe that the COVID-19 pandemic is not real.

Governor Nyesom Wike on Sunday, December 27, said that most church members openly flout covid-19 rules by abandoning their facemasks, Daily Trust reported.

He stated that the government will be forced to impose another state-wide lockdown if people keep disobeying standing orders to stop the spread of the virus.

Similarly, the governor of Ogun state has rolled out a set of safety rules that must be obeyed by citizens to slow down the spread of the second wave of COVID-19.

Governor Abiodun said the state government agreed on Thursday, December 24, that there will be no curfew or lockdown as was imposed during the emergence of the pandemic.

However, the governor stressed that there will be restrictions on social gathering and this will also affect religious public worship.

In another news, the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control has lent its support for the vaccination of persons to stop the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic and overcome it completely.

Chikwe Ihekweazu, the NCDC boss, said on Thursday, December 24, that the use of facemasks, hand sanitisers and the adherence to safety, hygiene measures will do much to slow the spread of the virus, but cannot kill it, The Nation reported.
