Latep Dabang: Plateau APC chairman contracts COVID-19

Honourable Latep Dabang, the chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Plateau state has tested positive for the coronavirus pandemic.

Dabang on Thursday, December 24, disclosed that the tests he took to ascertain his health status returned positive on Wednesday, December 23, The Nation reports.

With treatment already in process, the APC chairman in the state has gone into self-isolation even though he still asymptomatic at the moment.

One of Dabang's relatives informed journalists that although he is doing fine medically, the chairman needs prayers as tests have also been conducted on his family members.

Meanwhile, the governor of Plateau state, Simon Lalong had said there are no plans to lock down the state in response to the second wave of COVID-19, unlike his Kwara counterpart.

Lalong on Wednesday disclosed this during a meeting he had with relevant stakeholders in Jos to discuss how best to address the situation.

It was also gathered that the state government took the decision to ban all cultural festivals and close recreational centres in the state during this festive season.

The governor stressed the mandatory use of face masks in all public places while social distancing, hand washing, and other protocols are to be obeyed.

A statement by Macham Makut, the director of press and public affairs, explained that the meeting was convened by the governor to draw the attention of stakeholders to the second wave of the pandemic during the yuletide season.

Makut added that Lalong ordered that strong measures must be taken to ensure that people were sensitised to observe all the COVID-19 protocols in order to curb the spread of the disease.
