- The APC in Rivers state has become stronger as it receives new defectors from the PDP
- Six chieftains of the PDP in Oyibo local government area of the south-south state dumped the party for the APC on Wednesday, December 23
- The new members were received by the leadership of the APC in Oyibo LGA
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been hit with defection again as six of its chieftains in Oyibo local government area of Rivers state joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The new defectors, according to a report by The Nation, include Adolphus Nweke, Onyema Ihenna, Ibekwe Okere, among others.
Though the APC in Rivers state is also neck-deep in intra-party crisis, the defectors said the PDP is no better party.
They hoped the APC structure in Rivers state would become stronger after the crisis period.
The new APC members were quoted to have said:
“We would rather be active members of the APC and partake in the dividend of the work, than answer big name and die in hardship."
Legit.ng gathers that the defectors were received on Wednesday, December 23, by the party leader in Oyibo, Gift Okere, and caretaker committee chairman, Chamberlain Okorie.
Claiming that the PDP has crashed in the area following the defection of key executives to the APC, he urged the new members to work for APC’s victory in the next elections.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that the Rivers state commissioner for information and communications, Paulinus Nsirim, described the allegations that Governor Nyesom Wike was plotting to destabilise the APC as hilarious and ridiculous.
The allegation was made by a former spokesman of the APC in the state, Chris Finebone.
But Nsirim, in a statement by his media aide, Amieyeofori Ibim, described Finebone’s accusations as a ploy to instigate unnecessary conflict across Rivers state.
