Could this be a miracle? 175 days gone, and no record of coronavirus infection in Kogi state. Or could it be as a result of the proactiveness of the state government or its lack of sincerity on the matter?

Kogi state continues to court controversies over its low coronavirus status. According to Premium Times it is over hundred days since the last record of coronavus infection in the state.

It reported that the state of almost 3.5 million people, has only tested 392 blood samples, according to a national situational report published December 12 by the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

Also, recall that the issue of coronavirus has been controversial in the state following the state government's refusal to cooperate with NCDC personnel.

In fact, the state government believes the disease is not real. Governor Yahaya Bello had on March 25, on a Facebook post, trivialised the virus.

“Ninety per cent of the noise about COVID-19 is for political, economic, financial [or] material gain. The other 10 percent [relates to] ordinary flu, like the common colds Nigerians generally suffer,” the governor of the state, Yahaya Bello."

In reaction to the issue of Kogi, Oladejo Oluwaseun, a Facebook user noted that it is one of two things: Coronavirus is fake or the state government is irresponsible.

"Imagine with the proximity to Abuja, Nassarrawa and other nearby states with alarming/astronomical increase in Covid, Kogi is still down playing this menace. It's either the Covid is a scam in Nigeria or the Governor doesn't take the well being of his populace seriously."

Al-Daniel Bamaiyi added:

"Fake and untrue about Kogi, they should ask the governor why he attacked federal medical center Lokoja, and cartered away the data base of COVID -19 patients? Whatever the governor say about covid 19 is not the truth but big lies. Doctor are living under fear, they cant say anything because their life will pay for it."

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that Bello sent a serious message to the federal government: Focus on reviving the economy, not on how to procure COVID-19 vaccines.

He disclosed this on Wednesday, December 23.

According to him, the country cannot afford another lockdown in its present economic state. Going further, he criticised those advising President Buhari.
