Barcelona boss Ronald Koeman is reportedly planning to make a move for the duo of Antonio Rudiger and Fabian Schar when the January transfer window opens.

The Dutchman made attempts to sign Eric Garcia in the summer but Manchester City refused to allow the youngster to leave.

However, with the Catalans occupying the fifth position on the La Liga table, the manager is hoping to make crucial signings in a bid to contend for the title.

Daily Mail quoting The Athletic claims the Citizens are not prepared to lower the price tag on the defender despite his contract expiring in June.

The same outlet reports that the Camo Nou club has now lined up Germany defender Rudiger as well as Newcastle centre-back Schar among their options.

They are said to be experienced defenders who will fit into the club's philosophy and could also be available as short-term stop-gaps ahead of the summer transfer window.

Rudiger has made just five appearances for the Blues this term and he seems unsatisfied with the treatment he is getting under current boss Frank Lampard.

"I can't be satisfied with my situation, but the fight has been accepted. What will happen in January is a long way off. I'm completely relaxed."

Meanwhile, Schar has been left out of the Magpies' last three games having already featured for them eight times this season.
