National ID: FG releases NIN enrolment centres for Nigerians in diaspora

The federal government on Tuesday, December 22, announced the approved enrolment centres where Nigerians in Diaspora can register for the National Identification Number (NIN).

This was contained in a series of tweets by the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) following the Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC)'s directives mandating the telecommunication operators to block SIM cards not linked to NIN. recalls that the NCC, through its director of public affairs, Ikechukwu Adinde, on Tuesday, December 15, announced that Nigerians must update and link their data with telecoms companies with NIN.

Adinde, in a statement in Abuja, said the new rule applies to new SIM cards, stressing that those not linked with NIN will be disconnected in two weeks time.

The federal government has since announced approved 173 centres and 30 state government institutions to conduct enrolment for Nigerians staying in the country.

Meanwhile, backlashes have begun to trail the new rule by the NCC mandating telecommunication operators to block SIM cards that are not linked with the National Identity Numbers (NIN) by January 2021.
