Coronavirus: Buhari to meet presidential task force over second wave of COVID-19

Following the fear of the second wave of coronavirus pandemic, President Muhammadu Buhari is scheduled to meet with members of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 on Tuesday, December 22.

Legit.ng reports that the presidency announced this via its official handle on Tuesday, December 22.

It was gathered that the meeting, which will hold at the presidential villa in Abuja was not unconnected with the spike in the number of COVID-19 infections in the country.

The federal government had on Monday, December 21, imposed new restrictions amid the rising cases of COVID-19 in various parts of the country.

Boss Mustapha, who is the chairman of the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19, announced that the directives were advisories issued to state authorities for implementation in the next five weeks.

The new restrictions included the closure of all bars, nightclubs, pubs, and event centres, as well as recreational venues in all states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Restaurants were also directed to close, except those providing services to hotel residents, takeaways, home deliveries, and drive-ins.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported the federal government said that just like many nations, it may be forced to impose a ban on travel to some parts of the world due to the new strain of COVID-19 which is rampant in the United Kingdom (UK).

It was reported that this was revealed by the minister of information and culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, on Monday, December 21, in Abuja.

The minister noted that while the government is avoiding the implications of another lockdown, it might fall back on it as its only resort if the situation warrants the decision.

He pointed out that it would not be a surprise if the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 in Nigeria makes this recommendation to the government after its next meeting.
