Lionel Messi has repeatedly lied to, that is why he wants to leave, former and presidential candidate Joan Laporta claims.

The 33-year-old submitted a transfer request in the summer but decided to see out the remaining one-year in his contract at the Camp Nou.

And Laporta believes the terms and conditions in Messi's contract have not been fulfilled but a player of the Argentine's quality deserves better treatment than he is getting at the club.

"He needs to see that there is a competitive team to reignite the love story Barca had with the Champions League, but which has been on hold in recent years.
"La Blaugranahave repeatedly lied to him and, on top of that, things haven't gone as everyone wanted. He is at a point in his career where he still wants to be successful and win titles.
"He cannot keep accepting that other teams win the Champions League and Barca, with Lionel, the best player in the history of the game, do not have a team competitive enough to be able to win it."

Messi is allowed to speak with other clubs during the winter transfer window and the likes of Man City and Paris Saint-Germain are interested in signing the six-time Ballon d'Or winner.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that Inter Milan had in 2006 offered Barcelona a bid of €250million for the Argentine legend, Lionel Messi, according to former club president Joan Laporta.

Laporta who is also in the race for the 2021 presidency of the club stated that, had Barcelona not rejected such blockbuster offer from the Italian club, such transfer would have shattered the record.

Messi is already in the final year of his contract at the Catalan club and will become a free agent at the end of the season amid major interests from Premier League club, Manchester City.
