John Fitzpatrick: Man United legendary defender dies aged 74

Man United are in mourning following the tragic death of former club defender John Fitzpatrick.

Fitzpatrick made more than 140 appearances for the Red Devils during his spell at the club but had his career cut short at just 26 following a recurring knee injury.

It was gathered that the Scotsman succumbed on Monday, December 21, after a battle with dementia.

He is best remembered at Old Trafford for his role as the club's first substitute in a league match.

At the time, the versatile defender who could also play as a midfielder came on in place of Denis Law during a 5-1 defeat against Tottenham Hotspur in 1965.

Man United have since taken to social media to pay an emotional tribute to Fitzpatrick, with the Red Devils stating the former defender "will always be part of the club's history."

"Manchester United would like to send condolences to the family and friends of John Fitzpatrick, who has sadly passed away at the age of 74," United said in a statement.
"The Scotsman will always be part of the club's history after becoming the first substitute used by the club in a league match, replacing Denis Law during a defeat to Tottenham in October, 1965," the statement added.

Fitzpatrick's ex-teammate Alex Stepney also mourned his old colleague on Twitter, describing him as "a terrific footballer."

"John was a fantastic man and a terrific footballer," he posted.

"All my love to family," he added.

The FA Youth Cup is among the titles the Scottish won with the Reds in a side that also included George Best.

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer who is the handler of Manchester United is reportedly on the verge of changing his transfer plans for January 2021 due to Jesse Lingard and Odion Ighalo.

Jesse Lingard and Odion Ighalo have been having tough times this term at Manchester United as Ole Solskjaer is not considering them for games.

RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano and Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho have been the two main targets Manchester United are interested in next year.

Solskjaer is looking elsewhere to get another forwards who could replace Jesse Lingard and Odion Ighalo.
