- Lionel Messi has insisted that winning La Liga title is more important than his top scorer's award
- Barcelona were without a trophy last season but Messi was the highest goal scorer last season
- La Blaugrana are currently fifth on the table as they take on Real Valladolid in a La Liga fixture
Lionel Messi was presented with his eight Pichichi trophy after emerging top scorer in the Spanish topflight division last season.
But the Barcelona captain is far from impressed in winning another highest scorer's award after his team lost La Liga title to Real Madrid in the previous campaign.
And since the departure of his fiercest rival Cristiano Ronaldo to Juventus in 2018, Messi has won the Pichichi without any formidable competition.

However, with just six goals in the new season, Messi has insisted that he is more focused on winning the title this season than the individual accolade.
Messi told Marca as quoted by Goal:
"An eighth Pichichi? I don't know, nor am I thinking about it, it is not something I am worried or obsessed about,"
"I would prefer to win La Liga before getting the Pichichi, we are fighting towards that.
"We are slowly growing. We struggled to get going in the league, nor did we deserve to drop all those points, we could have won several of those games, like at Alaves, Getafe, Real Madrid...
"We created a lot of chances, that would have changed the situation, but we have to put together a run of good games to get ourselves back at the top."
Barcelona have had a bumpy start to the new campaign, having lost four matches already and are trailing league leaders Atletico Madrid by eight points.
La Blaugrana will take on Real Valladolid on Tuesday, December 22, in a bid to close the gap on the top four.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that Lionel Messi has finally spoken out as he enters into the final six months of his contract at Barcelona.
The 33-year-old submitted a transfer request during the summer but later rescinded his decision to stay at the Camp Nou.
The Argentine superstar decided to see out the remaining one year in his deal and would make a final decision whether to move on or not.
