Scores of Boko Haram terrorists were killed in an air raid as a fighter jet of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) foiled an attack on Ajiri, in Borno state, according to the Defence Headquarters (DHQ).
Major General John Enenche, the coordinator, Defence Media Operations, who made this known, said the troops dealt the terrorists another blow on its operation in the northeast with the destruction of two gun trucks, The Sun reports.
Enenche noted that the airstrikes were carried out on Saturday night, December 19, by the force's Air Task Force (ATF) of Operation Lafiya Dole.
He went on to note that the air raid was sequel to reports that the terrorists, in about seven gun trucks, had attempted to breach Ajiri, a settlement in Mafa local government area of the state.
The DHQ spokesperson added that a force package of helicopter gunships was dispatched to engage the terrorists.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that the Nigerian military gave a timely response to insurgents in Borno days after they went on a killing spree on some innocent citizens in the state recently.
According to the DHQ on Tuesday, December 1, troops of Operation Lafiya Dole destroyed the hiding places of Boko Haram leaders in Sambisa Forest.
During their operation, the Air Task Force also neutralised many fighters at Yale in the state.
In a related development, Boko Haram insurgents kidnapped another set of Nigerians in Borno, a day after Kankara schoolboys arrived in Katsina state.
The terrorists launched the attack on Saturday, December 19, along the Damaturu/Maiduguri highway in the state.
Eyewitnesses claimed that before the kidnap, the terrorists mounted checkpoints in Jakana and Auno towns, stopping vehicles and whisking away persons they deemed as targets in an operation that lasted over 30 minutes.
