2023: Nyako, Ribadu, others vow to oust Governor Fintiri

Ahead of the 2023 general elections, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Adamawa state has vowed to unseat Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri from power and reclaim the state from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Ibrahim Bilal, the APC state chairman, made this known during a ‘unity meeting’ held at the party’s secretariat over the weekend, Daily Trust reports.

Bilal while assuring defectors that they would get equal rights as existing members reiterated that the January 2021 membership registration/revalidation exercise would be used to admit everyone, including those who recently joined.

He urged party members to promote unity and treat every member with fairness and justice,

This is coming barely a month after the defections of some prominent politicians such as Senator Abdulazeez Nyako, Senator Ishaku Abbo in Adamawa state, Nuhu Ribadu, Chief Emmanuel Bello, and former governor Bala Ngillari into APC.

The returnees promised to take over power from PDP come 2023.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that Senator Abbo, representing Adamawa north senatorial zone in the 9th Assembly has indicated his interest to run for governor ahead of the 2023 elections.

Abbo speaking to newsmen after Senate plenary on Wednesday, November 25, explained that he left the PDP to contest for the state's highest position.

The lawmaker further expressed optimism that he will defeat Ahmadu Fintiri in the gubernatorial race despite the fact that he fought for the governor's victory back in 2019.

In a related development, the APC in Adamawa state has been strengthened with the return of a prominent former senator, Abdul’Aziz Nyako.

Nyako returned to the APC from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) alongside other members of the party.

The senator said he and others decided to return to the ruling party after reconciliatory talks between the APC leadership and other leaders of the ADC.
