Insecurity: Badugu says APC governors ready to work with PDP, others

- APC governors have resolved to work with their colleagues from the opposition parties, Atiku Bagudu has revealed

- According to the Kebbi state governor, this will help in tackling the rising insecurity across the country

- Bagudu also commended the security agencies and the federal government for successfully rescuing the abducted Kankara students

Atiku Bagudu, governor of Kebbi, has stated that governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) are ready to partner with their colleagues from the opposition party to tackle the spate of attacks across the country.

The governor made this disclosure in a statement on Sunday, December 20, titled ‘Rescue of Abducted GSSS Kankara Students.

Bagudu, who is the chairman of the Progressives Governors' Forum (PGF), said it is high time all governors and political stakeholders irrespective of party affiliation joined hands together to tackle the challenges posed by insecurity.

To achieve this objective, the Kebbi governor said PGF has resolved to work with their counterparts of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

He also commended the rescue of the over 300 students of Kankara local government, saying it is the responsibility of the Nigerian security agencies to protect, defend and secure the country, Daily Trust reports.

The students were kidnapped by suspected bandits on Friday, December 11, in what plunged the whole northern region into fear as states including Sokoto, Kano, and Kaduna closed schools amid insecurity scare.

But on Thursday, December 17, the over 300 students were successfully rescued from the kidnappers' den all thanks to the collective efforts of the Nigerian Army and the government.

Meanwhile, Ayodele Fayose has reacted to the release of the Kankara schoolboys with the former governor of Ekiti state saying the development is shrouded in secrecy.

Fayose reacted to the Kankara abduction in a series of tweets on his official Twitter handle on Friday, December 18, which was sighted by Legit.ng.

According to the former governor who is also a chieftain of the opposition PDP, Nigerians "must learn from the experiences going forward."

Alhaji Attahiru Ahmad, Emir of Anka, has urged the state governor, Bello Matawalle to allow people to carry firearms for self-defence amid rising insecurity in the northern region.

The traditional ruler made this known on Sunday, December 20, when he paid a condolence visit to Emir of Kaura-Namoda Alhaji Sanusi Muhammad Asha following bandits' attack on his convoy.

Emir of Anka submitted that since the bandits have refused to surrender, the state government must allow the bearing of firearms as means of self-defence.
