- Ronaldo has been impressive this term for Juventus in the Italian Serie A
Portugal international Cristiano Ronaldo has taken to social media to share an awesome photo of the Golden Foot award he won thanking fans who voted for him to get the incredible prize.
For more than 10 years now, the duo of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have been the two superstars who have been consistent in their games for clubs and national teams.
These two players have also been rivals, most especially when Cristiano Ronaldo was playing for reigning Spanish champions Real Madrid before moving to Serie A.
Although Cristiano Ronaldo is currently trailing Lionel Messi on the Ballon d'Or awards won with the Portuguese having five, while the Argentine is having six.
But the former Manchester United star has now won an award which has never been won before by his long term rival Lionel Messi.
Cristiano Ronaldo winning the Foot award comes not as a surprise considering the superb performances of the Portuguese for Juventus this term in the Italian Serie A.
According to the official statement made by Cristiano Ronaldo, he expressed his happiness winning the award and vowed to continue working hard.
''I am honored to win the @goldenfootofficial and to be immortalised on the Champion Promenade in Monaco, together with some of the greatest football legends of all time!
''I am truly humbled and want to thank the fans all over the world for having voted for me.''
Meanwhile, Cristiano Ronaldo and his teammates at Juventus are currently occupying third position on the Serie A table with 27 points after 13 games so far.
Earlier, Legit.ng had reported how Cristiano Ronaldo scored his 14th goal of the season after inspiring Juventus to a 3-1 triumph over Genoa.
Two goals from the 35-year-old and one from Paulo Dybala ensured the Old Lady claimed maximum points at the end of the game.
Stefano Sturaro's 61st minute fine strike from close range ended up a mere consolation as it could not stop them from losing.
It would also be recalled that Ronaldo outshined his arch-rival, Lionel Messi, in their Champions League fixture last week after converting two superb spot-kicks at Camp Nou.
His double helped Andrea Pirlo's men secure a win in what looked like sweet revenge for the Italian club having lost the first leg of their meeting.
