Dave Umahi has come under fierce attack with the governor of Ebonyi state being accused of intimidating members and prominent chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Umahi defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) on November 17 in what has been widely attributed to the 2023 presidency.

Addressing journalists on Sunday, December 20, Silas Onu, who spoke on behalf of members of the opposition party, said Umahi is threatening and intimidating key PDP chieftains.

Among top allegations, Onu said the governor is still targeting prominent PDP members who refused to join him in defecting to the APC, adding that Umahi is stockpiling arms in different locations in the state ahead of the Christmas, The Nation reports.

Onu further maintained that with the threats from the governor, the opposition party may be forced to seek the intervention of the United States, United Kingdom, Canada and other international communities.

He stated:

“Our petitions will be sent to all High Commissions and Embassies to draw attention towards this inhumane leadership style that cares less about human lives.
“His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari is also called upon to impress it on the Governor to lead as the chief security officer of the state.
“No one is concerned or threatened by the political identity of the Governor, but his desire to paint a picture of overwhelming love and support in Ebonyi state is driving him into despondency and hatred towards those who disagree with him.

The party said it is in support of peace and will do all it can to achieve it, while also calling on the governor to discharge his duty responsibly.
