Real Madrid put up a spectacular show on Sunday night, December 20, as they defeated hosts Eibar 3-1 to move to second position in the La Liga standinds.

Goals by Karim Benzema, Luka Modric and Lucas Vazquez were enough to hand Zinedine Zidane's men all three points on the night.

Madrid opened the scoring as early as the 6th minute when Rodrygo lifted a ball over the defence and the Karim Benzema controled beautifully. His shot was scuffed and clipped by Dmitrovic but looped off the keeper into the net and Madrid took the lead.

And it was 2-0 in the 13th minute after Lucas Vázquez's pressure paid-off as Benzema picked up the ball on the Madrid right and the Frenchman laid it off to Modric, who rifled a cracking shot into the top of the net from just inside the area!

However, the hosts pulled one back in the 27th minute following a sensational strike by the Eibar captain Kike.

He picked it up on the edge of the area, spinned on a sixpence to buy a yard and drove a glorious effort into the top corner! Unstoppable from García and Eibar were back in it!

It would have been two-all on the stroke of 90 minutes, but Sergio Ramos was on hand to deny the hosts a point.

Bigas was through and bearing down on goal but the Real Madrid captain came flying from out of nowhere and put in a perfect tackle to deny the Eibar man!

And in stoppage time, a one-two with Benzema and the Lucas Vazquez - and the latter planted a shot into the far corner on the run to seal the three points. What a finish and that is harsh on Eibar, who had the equaliser on Bigas' boot just a minute ago.

That needed to be inch-perfect as well. It ended; Eibar 1-3 Real Madrid.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that Lionel Messi scored his 643rd goal in Barcelona shirt in their 2-2 draw with Valencia on Saturday, December 19 to equal the incredible record set by legendary Pele.

Messi was able to restore parity in the added minutes of the first half through a header after his initial attempt from the spot was brilliantly saved by Juame.

Jordi Alba benefited from the keeper's save and crossed the ball back targeting his teammates which eventually found the Argentine who then headed it into the net.
