PDP wins all chairmanship seats in Abia local government poll

- The PDP coasted home to victory in the Abia local government election held on Friday, December 18

- The party won all the chairmanship seats in the 17 local government councils in the state

All local government chairmanship seats in Abia state have been won by the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP), according to Abia State Independent Electoral Commission (ABSIEC).

In a report by Vanguard, all PDP candidates were declared winners of all chairmanship seats in 17 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in the polls conducted on Friday, December 18.

The opposition party also won councillorship seats while the Labour party won six councillorship seats, out of the ten in Ikwuano LGA of the state.

Legit.ng gathered that the results were announced in Umuahia by the chairman of ABSIEC, Prof. Mkpa Mkpa, on Sunday, December 20.

While commending the electorate for the peaceful conduct of the election, Mkpa hailed ABSIEC officials for their commitment to their duties during the election.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that the local government council elections in Benue state ended in favour of PDP.

The party had a clean sweep of the council elections which held across the 23 local government areas of the state despite the coronavirus pandemic.

The party also won all the 276 councilorship positions in the election. The results were confirmed by the chairman of the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission, Terso Loko.

Similarly, PDP had a clean sweep of the council elections held across the 20 local government areas of Bauchi state in the poll conducted on Saturday, October 17.

The results announced on Sunday, October 18, by the chairman of the Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission (BASIEC), Dahiru Tata, stated that the party won all the 20 chairmanship seats and 320 councillorship positions.

According to Tata, the local government election was fair, credible, and acceptable. The chairman while noting that there were normal minor logistical issues, added that the poll was hitch-free devoid of political unrest.
