Diego Costa has once again joked about his Atletico Madrid teammate Luis Suarez after the Uruguayan bagged a brace against Elche.

The Spanish forward called Suarez a bastard for scoring two goals on the day he returned from injury he sustained in November.

In a post-match interview, Costa joked with reporters calling his teammate a carbon for scoring a brace.

"He wasn't scoring, the b*stard... now I'm back and he scores twice," Costa said, before adding that he was very happy for the Uruguayan."

Costa also got his name on the scoresheet after he was fouled in the box and won a penalty. The 32-year-old scored the resulting spot-kick in the 3-1 win at the Wanda Metropolitano.

The former Chelsea star was hoping to get some game time with Suarez out of form after the ex-Barcelona forward has been criticized for his lack of goals.

Suarez was anonymous in the 2-0 defeat to city rivals Real Madrid and Diego Simeone has taken the blame for rushing the Uruguayan into action shortly after he recovered from COVID-19.

"The person most responsible is me more than him.

"Just out of COVID we played him, without giving him time [to get up to speed], but he is going to be very important for us."
