- Simeon Nwankwo's lone strike not enough to help Crotone avoid defeat against Sampdoria
- The Nigerian star converted a penalty in the added minutes of the opening half
- But a goal each from Mikkel Damsgaard, Jakub Jankto and Fabio Quagliarella sealed the win for the hosts
Nigerian striker Simeon Nwankwo was on target for Crotone in their 3-1 Serie A defeat to Sampdoria at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris.
The 28-year-old Super Eagles star scored his side's only goal from the penalty spot in the added minutes of the encounter.
His effort also helped them reduce their deficit in the first half after Mikkel Damsgaard and Jakub Jankto had given the hosts earlier in the game.
And Fabio Quagliarella's 65th-minute goal put the game beyond the visitors as they were condemned to their ninth defeat of the campaign.
However, Simy's lone goal took his tally for the season in 13 Italian League games but his team does not look like they might survive the drop eventually.
They sit at the base of the table with six points from 13 games, having won just one game and drew three in the process.
It would be recalled that the striker scored 20 goals and four assists in 37 Serie B actions last campaign which propelled them into the Italian topflight.
The Nigerian forward has however not been able to replicate that form this season having scored just four in 13 games so far.
Legit.ng earlier reported that Manchester City continue their winning run in the Premier League as they recorded a narrow 1-0 win against Southampton.
Raheem Sterling's strike made the difference between both sides as the former defending champions remain ninth on the table.
Pep Guardiola men were without their natural strikers including Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus in the starting XI.
But it took the Citizens 16 minutes to find the back of the net as Kevin de Bruyne's cut-back found Sterling who hit a first-time shot to make it 1-0.
