President Muhammadu Buhari has claimed that the abduction of some students from a government-owned school in Kankara, Katsina state was a deliberate attempt to embarrass his administration.

The Nigerian leader made the claim on Friday, December 18, when he addressed the rescued students at the Katsina government house, PM News reported.

Buhari who spoke in Hausa said it was not a coincidence that the abduction occurred on the very day he visited his hometown, Daura.

According to Vanguard, he promised the rescued students that his administration would do all it could to prevent future occurrence of the incident.

The president commended Governor Aminu Masari of Katsina state for ensuring the release of the students. He also lauded the efforts of security officials involved in the rescue operation.

Meanwhile, following the spate of insecurity across the country, President Buhari has finally admitted that the effort of Nigeria’s security chiefs against insurgency is not enough.

The Nation reported that the president made this known in a meeting held with the service chiefs at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Thursday, December 17.

He bemoaned the abysmal performance of the heads of security agencies in the fight against insurgents in the country.

In another news, the National Inter-Faith and Religious Organizations for Peace (NIFROP) on Friday, December 18, said it welcomed the release of the Katsina students who were kidnapped by criminals.

In a statement seen by Legit.ng and signed by the group's national coordinator, Bishop Sunday Garuba, NIFROP said the release of the schoolboys is a show of God's faithfulness towards Nigeria and President Buhari.
