Coronavirus: 7 important directives Sanwo-Olu issues as he closes schools

Amid scare of COVID-19 second wave, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Friday, December 18, announced the closure of all schools in the Lagos state and mandated all the public servants from level 14 and below to work from home.

The directive became necessary as the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Thursday, December 17, announced 1,145 new cases of COVID-19 with Lagos leading the packs with a daily record of 459 cases.

The epicentre of coronavirus in Nigeria, the state currently boasts 25, 895 cases followed by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and Kaduna.

Part of the statement read:

"As you are all aware, Lagos State is recording an increase in COVID-19 cases in all local governments. This is not peculiar to Lagos alone; the entire country is also seeing an uptick in the numbers of confirmed cases of the Coronavirus disease.

"Sadly, we have lost 226 persons (May their souls rest in peace). It is important to note that Lagos already tests far more than any other State, accounting for 25 percent of the total numbers tested nationwide."

Meanwhile, Legit.ng highlights major measures and directives issued by the Lagos state government amid second wave scare.

1. All public servants from GL 14 and below, except emergency workers and first responders, are to work from home as from Monday, December 21st for the next 14 days – in the first instance.

2. All schools must shut down with immediate effect, and until further notice.

3. Concerts, carnivals and street parties are banned in Lagos State until further notice. Night Clubs have not been allowed to open yet. All Night Clubs in Lagos must immediately shut down, until further notice.

4. The protocol of ‘No Mask No Entry’ must be enforced by all public places: Offices, Businesses, Markets, Shops, and so on.

5. All Places of Worship (Churches, Mosques, etc.) must ensure that no gathering exceeds two hours, and also that no gathering exceeds 50% of the maximum capacity of the Venue.

7. Ample ventilation must also be maintained at all times in all Venues, and Deep cleaning of the premises must be carried out BEFORE and AFTER every event.

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Lagos government directed all the private and government-owned schools in the state to vacate and end "the 2020/2021 first term academic session."

This is contained in a statement released on Thursday, December 17, signed by Abiola Seriki-Ayeni, the director-general of office of education quality assurance in the state's Ministry of Education.
