Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto state has gone into isolation after coming in contact with someone who tested positive for COVID-19.

This was revealed in a short message posted on the governor's Twitter handle on Friday, December 18.

According to the statement, the deputy governor will oversee all activities in the state pending the outcome of the COVID-19 result of the governor.

Tambuwal's precautionary measure comes a day after his colleague in Plateau, Simon Lalong, tested positive for COVID-19, following a test he and members of his family carried out.

A statement from the Plateau state government revealed that Lalong’s test result returned positive while all members of his family tested negative.

In a related development, the Secretary of the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, has gone into self-isolation after some members of his household tested positive for COVID-19.

Mustapha made this known in a statement sent to journalists and seen by Legit.ng on Sunday, December 13.

The Adamawa-born politician noted that he and his wife tested negative but will remain in self-isolation and work from home according to protocols by the health authorities.

Recall that the federal government recently expressed concerns that Nigeria could be entering the second wave in the spread of the COVID-19 virus following the rise in the number of cases in recent times.

Dr Osagie Ehanire, minister of health, said he had directed isolation and treatment centres in the country to prepare for reopening over the new development.

Meanwhile, the National Economic Council (NEC) said another lockdown will be the last resort in the wake of the second wave of COVID-19.

NEC which is chaired by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo made the disclosure after a virtual meeting on Thursday, December 17.
