Lionel Messi ignored Cristiano Ronaldo in his three-man shortlist for The Best FIFA Men's Player of the Year Award having favoured Paris Saint-Germain duo to possibly win it.

GOAL are reporting that the Argentine named his former teammate Neymar as well as Kylian Mbappe from the French Ligue 1 side to claim the coveted prize.

Eventual winner, Robert Lewandowski is the third name on Messi's list and the Bayern Munich legend eventually scooped the award which was the biggest individual prize on the night.

He found the back of the net a staggering 55 times in just 47 appearances across all competitions last season to inspire the German outfit to an unprecedented treble including the Champions League, Bundesliga and the DFB Cup.

He beat off competition from Messi and Ronaldo in the final three-man shortlist, with the former denying his second FIFA gong and the latter missing out on a record-extending third win.

Football's main international governing body has now made the final votes public, giving supporters the chance to find out who their favourite players picked before the ceremony on Thursday.

On the night, Tottenham’s Son Heung Min won the Puskas Award having completed a breathtaking solo run to score a superb goal in Tottenham’s 5-0 thrashing of Burnley in the Premier League in December 2019.

The 28-year-old picked up the ball right in his side’s half and took on the opponents on his way to scoring the best goal of last season as he claims the coveted prize.

The amazing strike was well rewarded on a night when FIFA rewarded the best achievements between July 20, 2019, and October 7, 2020.

However, Legit.ng earlier reported that Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have fallen behind tennis star, Roger Federer in terms of the highest-paid celebrities in 2020.

Despite having a dull year, the 20-time Grand Slam winner still got the highest paycheck among other celebrities in the world. Federer is behind makeup mogul, Kylie Jenner, who is the highest-paid while American rapper Kanye West is in second place among the top ten earners.
