Disturbing international reports claim that President Emmanuel Macron of France has tested positive for the coronavirus pandemic.
This was confirmed after a test President Macron took recently returned positive in the morning of Thursday, December 17, BBC reports.
Part of an official statement from the Elysée Palace read:
"The President of the Republic has been diagnosed positive for Covid-19 today. This diagnosis was made following an PCR test performed at the onset of the first symptoms."
The statement further revealed that the 42-year-old French president is still in charge of the country but will carry out his duties from self-isolation.
So far, nothing official from the French presidency is out as to how the president contracted the deadly global pandemic.
Meanwhile, amid coronavirus in Nigeria, over 100 German nationals at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos were waiting for their flight to Frankfurt, having completed the necessary documentation.
Moreover, an official at the airport told journalists that an Air France aircraft was waiting to airlift a lot of French citizens.
A chartered Air France flight evacuated 260 European citizens from Nigeria and additional 118 European citizens from other West African countries through the airport (MMIA), Lagos on Thursday, March 26.
The British High Commission was also exploring options for sending its staff, dependents and other Britons to the UK.
The Air France flight was said to have landed in Lagos via Cotonou with 118 passengers on board at 3 pm local time.
It was gathered that 260 passengers boarded the flight from Lagos and the aircraft took off to Paris about 3:44 pm local time.
The federal government had granted Air France and KLM one-week permission to evacuate European citizens from Nigeria.
