Real Madrid striker, Karim Benzema, has proven to be more important to Zinedine Zidane's second spell than Cristiano Ronaldo for the French manager during his first time in charge.

The 35-year-old rose to become Los Blancos highest goals scorers with 450 goals in 438 appearances across competitions.

He also inspired the Galacticos to four Champions League triumphs during his nine-year reign at the Santiago Bernabeu.

However, recent stats have now shown that Benzema has been more effective for the 48-year-old since his return in 2019. Pedro Martin, a statistician, said in a post on Twitter that:

"Benzema is more important for Zidane's second Madrid than Cristiano for Zidane's first Madrid.
"Cristiano scored 28% of the goals of Zidane's first Madrid (112 of 393). Benzema has scored 29% of the goals of Zidane's second Madrid (44 of 148)."

Benzema has scored 10 goals and three assists in 16 appearances across competitions this campaign.

He was instrumental to their Spanish League success last campaign after helping them beat rivals Barcelona to the top prize in the last ten games of the season.

The 32-year-old has four Champions League titles among several other domestic and continental trophies in his cabinet.
