The second annual Lagos Dog Carnival held recently to celebrate canines and their owners.
The disclosure was made on Twitter by Reuters which noted that different categories of awards were given out to the animals.
The awards included best dressed dog, best groomed, best showmanship and best human and dog pair.
An animal rights activist who organised the event, Jackie de McGoo, said the initiative seeks to promote animal welfare and create awareness on the benefits of owning pets.

In her words:
“Dog owners are underappreciated in Lagos, Nigeria. People don’t really think much of animals. So, this event is channeled at celebrating the humans that go all out above and beyond for these animals."

In other news, Nigerians on social media have shown how sweet it is to own a cat as pet as they flooded Twitter with adorable pictures of their pets.
A tweep with the handle @_PLICE took to the social media platform to call on cat owners to flaunt their pets.
He shared pictures of his own cat and wrote:
"Nigerian cat parents, let's show off our babies.
"Meet Shadow. She's 6months old."
"I really wish the stereotypes on cats can stop.They are amazing buddies, extra clean, playful and responsible. If you haven’t gotten one yet, please do but make sure you take care of him/her/them well. Feed them, play with them and take them to the Vet regularly."
