Zinedine Zidane has reckoned that Karim Benzema is the best striker in France's rich footballing history following his display against Athletic Bilbao in La Liga, Goal.

The 32-year-old scored two goals in the second half to ensure Real Madrid gathered all three points against stubborn Athletic in the 3-1 win.

In a post-match interview, Zidane was asked if Benzema was the French striker ever and he responded:

"For me yes, with what he does on the pitch, what he has shown so far, he has been at Real Madrid for ore than ten years.

"More than 500 games, all the goals, his record. What he has done speaks for itself. For me he is the best, it is very clear."

Los Blancos are now level on points with Real Sociedad and Atletico Madrid at the top of La Liga following their third straight win.

And the Galacticos will be looking to add another with on the bounce when they travel to Eibar to pay their 14th league game of the season.

Benzema last featured for the French national team in 2015 and was expelled from Les Bleus following the incident with teammate Mathieu Valbuena.

He scored 27 goals in 81 appearances for the national but has netted over 250 goals for Real Madrid since his move from Lyon in 2009.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that Real Madrid record a 3-1 win over Athletic Bilbao in La Liga at a match played at the Alfredo di Stefano Stadium.
